Life is good.

Dearest family and friends,

I hope you all are doing well! I know this last week was kind of a big week for a lot of you back at home...congratulations to Paige for graduating, Lindsay for finishing Elementary school (finally!;)) and Kent and Amber for finishing another year of school! yay!

This week has been a really good week here in Piura! Winter time is starting here and unfortunately, the change in the weather has caused me a little bit of a cold and a cough, but other than really red eyes everything's fine!

Hermana G. and I had some really neat experiences this week. In our mission we're working with a plan that we call Alma y Amulek, which basically is all about helping the members help us in missionary work, like Amulek helped Alma when he went to Ammonihah. Recently we started to visit a sister named Matilde. She was baptized in Paita, but has been living here in Piura for some time. Unfortunately, however, when she came to Piura, she didn't ever go back to church. This week we were able to find her in her home. It was the first visit we had with her, and we decided to talk to her about Alma and Amulek. It was interesting because the way we were able to share it was an application of what Elder Evans taught us about how we shouldn't treat them like less actives, but treat them as if they were still active in the church. It was really neat because she opened up her heart to us, and in the end helped us to find the house of her family members that lived around the corner from her. When we left you could tell that she felt good not only because we went and visited her, but also because she was able to help us out.

Also, today we went to a place called El Mercado de Piura with a less active (that's now been going to church 2 weeks in a row!!) named M. It was super fun because in the Mercado there are TONS of people and they're always trying to talk to you and get you to buy their products...kind of like in Mexico when they told us we should buy their "cheap Mexican stuff". It was super stressful for me the first time I went because I felt bad telling them no, but really didn't want whatever it was that they were selling. So today Hermana Garcia and I made a game plan. We took a bunch of pass along cards with us and everyone that tried to talk us into their stuff we said, "No thanks, but here we have a card for you." and then we gave them the card and started sharing with them. After a little while, Hermana M. got really excited by all of the reactions that we got from people, and decided she wanted to help out. So we gave her a bunch of cards and she started helping us contact the people in the mercado!! It was the neatest thing ever.

Also, this week we were contacting one morning in a huge skate park, and we saw this woman passing by with a bunch of groceries. We asked her if we could help and she-relieved-told us that she'd love the help. So, we picked up a few of her groceries and started walking with her towards her house. She told us that her name is Margarita and that she was coming from making some payments in the bank and didn't have any change to come home in moto and that's why she was walking. She was really interested in the fact that we were here from so far away just to help people learn about Jesus Christ. When we finally got to the corner of the street where she lived, she pointed out her house....and wow. It was a really nice house. It had tons of bars in fron and lots of decorations and GRASS and tile and everything. It was nicely painted and had a second story and a place for a car. These people have money. She let us in and we were able to set an appointment for the next day. As Hermana Garcia and I walked away, we looked at each other and said "There is NO other way we ever would have gotten into that house." It was such a miracle. We were able to visit her the next day and she seems really interested. It's amazing how the Lord helps us get to every person in the way that He knows is best...and I'm so grateful to be a part of the everyday miracles that He gives us!

I am so grateful to be participating in this amazing work. I know that it's true. I know that our Heavenly Father loves us and that He is always preparing a way for us to get back home to Him. He wants us there, but it all depends on our willingness to follow His guidance to get back home.

Hope you all have a wonderful week! Keep looking for the everyday miracles of the Lord in your lives!

Love,

Hermana Garner
